Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are extremely excited to be a part of your child’s summer and educational career and we would like to introduce ourselves. We will all specifically be working with individual students, but our group will all be teaching your child within the classroom. Each of us has completed our coursework for our master’s degrees in Special Education.
Here is a little more about each of us:
Deb Roney: Ms. Roney teaches 3rd grade and has also taught 2nd grade. She graduated from Miami of Ohio University and Oakland University. Ms. Roney loves music and invites the integration of music in the classroom. She also enjoys theater.
Amy Jalon: Ms. Jalon has taught Kindergarten and 1st grade for four years. She currently works at ITT Technical Institute in the Admissions and Advising Department with post-secondary students. She loves nature, gardening, cooking, and learning.
Nicole Nahigian: Ms. Nahigian teaches 1st grade. She loves music, technology, and active learning. She has played the piano for over twenty years. Ms. Nahigian loves to cook, bike, play tennis, and rollerblade.
Kim Davis: Ms. Davis teaches 3rd and 4th grade. She was formerly an elementary Spanish teacher. Ms. Davis loves to integrate technology, cooperative learning, and student choice in her classroom. She also loves to read, garden, and cook.
We are all looking forward to a wonderful summer working with your child!
Here is a little information about our thematic unit and more in depth information about the first week of school.
The thematic unit that we chose is Community Careers Cruise. This summer, your child will “travel” around the Detroit Metropolitan Area to learn about many interesting and engaging careers that might spark some interest and excite them for their future. They will be taking part in a number of activities throughout the summer. During the first two weeks, our activities include filming a television commercial, creating an animal habitat in the form of a diorama, organizing zoo facilities, and researching specific animals. Throughout the summer, we also plan to share information online in the form of a website, www.ouc3.blogspot.com/
Prompt arrival to school and attendance is very important for your child’s success! We plan an extremely full day of fun from 9:00-12:00. Please let us know if there are any issues with getting your child to school on time and also please let us know if there are any days that your child might miss.
One thing we need as soon as possible for your child is a shoe box. Please send one in from home if possible. Thank you!
If you have any questions, please speak with us when you are picking up your child or feel free to email us at ouc3teach@gmail.com and we will email you back promptly.
We hope you and your child are as excited about the summer as we are!
Sincerely,
Ms. Davis, Ms. Jalon, Ms. Nahigian, & Ms. Roney
